Rosalynn Carter was a paragon of strength and resilience in a marriage that was in all ways a true partnership. Her death was announced by the Carter Center on Sunday, which said she had passed away with loved ones at her bedside. It was different however, when she visited her neighbor’s house and saw a photo of Jimmy Carter on the bedroom wall. Former President Jimmy Carter kisses former first lady Rosalynn Carter after they received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Bill Clinton in 1999. In Jimmy Carter’s post-presidency, the Carters have championed democracy and political stability, traveling to hot spots including Cuba, Sudan and North Korea.

Tucker Carlson baselessly claimed that the political establishment is plotting to assassinate Donald Trump. The conspiracy theory has been growing in traction among far-right figures. The former Fox News host peddled the conspiracy theory in an interview with anti-woke comedian Adam Carolla posted on Wednesday. The conspiracy theory has been amplified by prominent far-right figures such as Infowars' Alex Jones and former Fox News host Dan Bongino, according to NBC News. Bongino claimed that the "plot to take out Trump is metastasizing" in a recent podcast episode titled "Speeding Towards Assassination?"

WASHINGTON, Aug 17 (Reuters) - Law enforcement officials were investigating threats related to former President Donald Trump's election interference probe in Georgia, after the names and addresses of grand jury members were shared online, the local sheriff's office said. "Our investigators are working closely with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to track down the origin of threats in Fulton County and other jurisdictions," the Fulton County Sheriff's Office said in a statement on Thursday. It’s critical that the Fulton County Sheriff's Office take this matter seriously. Fulton County contains Atlanta, Georgia's largest city and the state capital. "These jurors have signed their death warrant by falsely indicting President Trump," one report quoted a poster as saying.

CNN cannot independently verify if the photographs, social media accounts and the homes addresses being posted actually belong to the grand jurors. However, the names being circulated on these sites appear to match the names of at least 13 of the 26 grand jurors that served on the panel in Fulton County. It’s unclear if those names are the actual grand jurors or just people with the same name. Also, on some forums, users are posting multiple social media profiles of different people who have the same name as some of the grand jurors. MAGA supporters are using violent rhetoric after the news of the indictment of Trump, says a nonprofit. Messaging board users made threats against lawmakers, with some calling for "civil war," Vice News reported. "Perhaps it's time for that Civil War that the damn DemoKKKrats have been trying to start for years now," a member of The Donald, a pro-Trump message board, wrote, per Vice. Responding to a user's prediction of "civil war" on Thursday, another called it "inevitable," saying a conflict is "right around the corner." Violent rhetoric from Trump's far-right supporters followed Trump's previous indictment earlier this year.

"Wow, the PRC (People's Republic of China) just sanctioned me again, for the second time," Hsiao tweeted in response to the announcement. Taiwan's Foreign Ministry reacted angrily, saying China had no right to "butt in" when it came to Tsai's overseas trips and that Beijing was "deceiving itself" if it thought the sanctions would have any effect. China has also banned the leaders from entering the country, and frozen any properties they have in China, it said. Chinese sanctions will have little practical impact as senior Taiwanese officials do not visit China while Chinese courts do not have jurisdiction in Taiwan. Others on the August sanctions list include Taiwan Foreign Minister Joseph Wu; Wellington Koo, Secretary-General of Taiwan's National Security Council; and DPP politicians.
Jimmy Carter, 98, to receive hospice care

Feb 18 (Reuters) - Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter has decided to receive hospice care and "spend his remaining time at home with his family" instead of additional medical intervention, the Carter Center said on Saturday. Carter, 98, who has lived longer after leaving the White House than any former president in U.S. history, was a Democrat who served from January 1977 to January 1981. The Carter family asks for privacy during this time and is grateful for the concern shown by his many admirers," the center said in a statement. But Carter also played a central role in brokering the Camp David accords that led to the landmark Egypt-Israeli peace treaty. However, Carter rehabilitated his legacy as he worked energetically for decades on humanitarian causes.
WASHINGTON — The House Jan. 6 committee found that law enforcement agencies gathered “substantial evidence” of potential violence at the Capitol as Congress met to formalize Joe Biden's election as president, a member of the panel said at its final meeting Monday. But the executive summary of the committee's final report doesn’t address questions of why the FBI, U.S. Capitol Police and other law enforcement agencies didn’t do more to increase security that day. The executive summary, released Monday, avoids criticizing or reaching conclusions about law enforcement and intelligence shortfalls in the lead-up to the attack, which many law enforcement experts have called the biggest intelligence failure since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. A representative for the committee didn’t respond to a request for comment about the decision not to include more information about the role law enforcement played ahead of the Capitol attack. The committee's executive summary discusses information that the FBI and other law enforcement agencies received in the days before Jan. 6, saying some of the intelligence was shared with partners like the Capitol Police.
